• Preparing Leeks

Preparing LeeksIf you are doing this for the first time,  get a grown up to help you.   The softest and most tasty part of the leek is the white bit.

Chop off the green bits and chop off the coarse route bit at the end and throw these bits away.

Leeks grow in layers so you will often find dirt and grit inside the leek.    To get rid of this,  use a sharp knife to slice along the length of the leek.  You should cut to the centre of the leek,  so that each of the rings is cut through.   You can now wash the layers of the leek under the tap,  taking care not to pull the layers apart.

Now cut the leek into circles.
